    Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

It’s been awhile since I have fully submerged myself in a book. My mind, it seems, has been other places. But when as I wandered the library for the third time last week, I finally found a title that stuck out. It was sitting on the Young Adult shelf labeled “Popular Reads.” I had remembered a literature professor recommend it some years ago. So I grabbed it for myself and added it to the pile of picture books the kids had began hoarding. Then onward we traveled: Thing One, Thing Two and me, the Cat in the Hat. We made yet another lap around the library before readying ourselves enough to…

    Encyclopedia Set

Remember Encyclopedias? They’re dinosaurs now, for sure, long buried with the influx of technology. But, it seems like when I was younger, everyone had them.  All my friends’ families had them. Our school libraries had them. Our classrooms had them. I remember asking my teacher a question and her telling me to “look it up.” I remember sitting at the dinner table and passing around the D Encyclopedia to look up different breeds of dogs. If you have never read a book by Rob Bell, you’re missing out. Despite what you believe or how fiercely you believe it, Bell has a way of opening your…

    Book Report 2// Little Princes

Do you ever open a novel and feel like you are having a conversation with the author? And not just any conversation, but the kind of conversation that is only possible between close, personal friends. A conversation that’s so engaging it seeps into the night and you wake up remembering it the next day. That is exactly the experience I had after fifty pages into Little Princes by Conor Grennan! I’m beyond excited to discuss my reactions as I cross it off my 2013 Book List! What I Read? Little Princes by Conor Greenan Why I Chose It? This novel was a recommendation from Sean.  Typically we don’t share the…

Book Report 1: The Polish Boxer

I hate spoilers. This first report won’t give anything away, it’s merely a short reflection. What I read? The Polish Boxer, by Eduardo Halfon Why I chose to include it in  my goal of 20 books? Honestly, it was the first novel that inspired  my book list. I’m always wandering the library looking at the books they put out on display. Lot’s of times I have already read the books and I get excited about the librarians and I have seem to have similar taste. Nannies can be astute as well, you see. However, one day I saw The Polish Boxer and felt not so astute. I had never seen…
