Girls Trip to Austin, Texas

There is a page of half-scribbled notes in my journal from our trip to Austin. They are not about what we did, which might have been helpful in writing this post, but rather small details from what I saw along the way. It has been years since I journaled long-hand and this trip has reminded me how much I miss the process of pen to paper. It has also been years since I’ve traveled alone. That, too, I have missed.

We spent Friday night catching up over local beers and pizza at the Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. If you’re ever in Austin, I’d consider this a must. The ambiance was relaxed, the garden was dreamy and the beer was de-licios. After dinner in the garden, we went inside and listened (errr… danced) to a local country music band. It was the kind of night Texas dreams are made of.

On Saturday, amply filled up on Starbucks, we drove to Waco to experience Magnolia. We joked that this trip was a journey to our holy Mecca. And on some levels, maybe it was. Who is to say it wasn’t?

I think it’s safe to say that Magnolia should be on everyone’s bucket list. I can’t wait to plan another trip back! I’d especially love to see it in Christmastime.

Returning to Austin, we celebrated our purchases over wine and Indian food on Rainey street. The rest of the evening was spent having the kind of conversations you can only have with your closest girlfriends and cocktails.

On Sunday morning, we headed to Radio Coffee and Beer for coffee and breakfast burritos. The sun was out, making it one of those mornings you know you’ll always remember. And the tacos… the breakfast tacos can only be described as “everything I ever needed.”

Fueled by food and coffee, we hit up South Congress and we hit it hard. We left no shop unshoped. SoCo was filled with funky shops, vibrantly colored walls and restaurant pouring live music out onto the street. If I ever visit Austin again, I’ll definitely go back!

My time with these women is always consumed with laughter, plans of the future and challenging conversations about the ordinary and unordinary, too. I feel lucky to have surrounded myself with women who ask questions. How good it feels to connect with people, not just my own thoughts. I hope we make these weekend trips a tradition in the years to come.
